The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. For most of their history the line-up consisted of primary songwriter Sting lead vocals, bass guitar, Andy Summers guitar, and Stewart Copeland drums, percussion. The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerging in the British new wave scene, they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. Considered one of the leaders of the Second British Invasion of the U. in 1983 Rolling Stone. Stewart Armstrong Copeland born July 16, 1952 is an American musician and composer. He was the drummer of the British rock band the Police, has produced film and video game soundtracks and written various pieces of music for ballet, opera and orchestra. According to MusicRadar, Copeland's distinctive drum sound and uniqueness of style has made him one of the most popular drummers to ever get behind a drumset. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Police in 2003. The Police - comprised of Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers - topped both charts and radio airwaves in the late Seventies and early Eighties. The Police: Andy Summers, Sting and Stewart Copeland he was always my favourite, I had a thing for drummers LOL. What others are saying. The Police: Andy Summers, Sting and Stewart Copeland. Together with his bandmates Sting and Andy Summers, drummer Stewart Copeland was part of one of the most singular bands in rocknroll: The Police. Since their formation in 1977, the UK power trio embodied the punk spirit while simultaneously being incredibly dynamic musicians. Last year, their career was celebrated with the release of the exhaustive, 6LP box set Every Move You Make: The Studio Recordings, which chronicled their rise from raucous club act to one of the biggest groups of the 80s. In an interview with uDiscover Music, Stewart Copeland recalled his fateful encounter with Sting, T. The Police are rehearsing for their first tour in twenty-three years in a gymnasium in Vancouver. Opening night is a week away, in a local arena. Before replacing original guitarist Henry Padovani in 1977, Summers played with a series of great, eccentric British singers in the Sixties and Seventies, including Kevin Ayers, Kevin Coyne, Zoot Money and Eric Burdon in the last lineup of the Animals. Its not a democracy, Summers says of the Police. Its an ego-cracy. He grins. The Police were a Copeland family affair too. Stewarts oldest brother, Miles, managed the band. Ian, the middle brother, was the booking agent. And then, at the peak of their game, the Police walked away, breaking up after 1983s Synchronicity album had made them the most popular band in the world. The film, which is based on Summerss 2006 memoir One Train Later, illustrates the personal struggles underlying the bands triumphs. Summers, Sting, and Stewart Copeland - three formidable musicians with large, opinionated personalities - almost immediately locked into battles over ego and control, which only escalated as their popularity grew. Andy Summers: Theres definitely a shadow side to it, as there is to everything. In my case, I lost my wife and it was terrible, I never got over it
