This was the Elton John music I loved the most and the Melbourne Symphony provided a spectacular backdrop. Unfortunately, this concert was held before Elton's throat surgery and his vocals were not the Elton John you're used to hearing. In fact, and in all due respect to Sir Elton, it sounded as if he was gargling through the entire performance. I wish this concert was held after his operation. If you like good quality, rich sounding music, and you love Elton John's music, you'll cherish this album forever X. Previous image. John's comparatively small combo is augmented on these tracks by the 88-piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under the direction of onetime bandmate James Newton Howard. There are a few surprisingly strong readings of early sides such as 60 Years On, I Need You to Turn To, The Greatest Discovery, and an edgy and soulful version of The King Must Die. Sir Elton John's greatest hits have been recorded on every format of media because, frankly, they just keep selling. Two generations have demanded that John's music keep on being performed live & recorded. Without a doubt, John's live Australia concert is his career defining one. It was recorded live while John was delivering his most powerful performance. He was accompanied by his own 13 member band.
