"A DERAM recording, released in Australia exclusively by World Record Club."
c1974 Australian WRC pressing, sourced from original stampers and featuring unique sleeve art. Also issued on cassette. "S/5225" on sleeve, "S-5225" on labels. Two versions exist in this format - Cat Stevens - New Masters (blue title font and red picture on front, red font and blue pictures on back) and this one (green title font and brown picture on front, brown font and green pictures on back). This is presumably the second pressing, although the evidence is not overwhelming - the colouring on the labels matches that of later releases; and the general assumption that the more colourful the artwork, the earlier the pressing.

New Masters is the second studio album by singer-songwriter Cat Stevens, released in December 1967 by Deram Records a new subsidiary of Decca Records as a follow up to the highly successful debut album, Matthew and Son. The label was disappointed by Cat Stevens' second album's poor sales, given that the previous album made the UK Top Ten and produced several hit singles. New Masters generated little interest, failing to chart in either the UK or the United States. The single KittyBlackness of. New Masters. Cat Stevens - New Masters 1967. And with the record label caught in the middle, the resulting album was allowed to die on the vine in 19671968 though Decca was able to sell it in profusion when it was reissued when Stevens re-emerged as a popular singersongwriter in the early '70s. In a sense, it's more of the same as Matthew & Son but, intrinsically, not as interesting as a late 1967 release, as the earlier record was as an early 1967 release. Tea for the Tillerman.
